What Is The Loose Volume?
The loose volume of firewood refers to a natural, random loose pile with larger air gaps in between the logs. Many suppliers already deliver their firewood in this form, such as in builder bags, so therefore it’s the standard way to provide measurements.

What Is The Stacked Volume?
The stacked volume refers to when the firewood is contained as a dense, neat stack with very little space between the logs. The reduction in air gaps makes the shrink by over a third.
Why Do We Quote The Loose Volume?
The main reason we prefer to provide the loose volume, is that other suppliers do the same. It’s easier to compare this in terms of cost per cubic metre, to check the value for money that we’re providing against other competitors.
Additionally, other suppliers sometimes use the external dimensions of the crate, which is inaccurate and makes online measurements difficult to understand. This way, we’re keeping things simple – it gives you a clearer picture of just how much firewood you’re handling once it’s out of the crate.
How To Measure The Stacked & Loose Volumes
 |
STACKED VOL m³:Take the internal volume of the crate (height × width × depth). The volume inside the crate does not include the crate or pallet. Just the firewood stack itself. The closer your logs are stacked, the more you get per cubic metre. |
 |
LOOSE VOL m³:The industry standard for calculating loose volume is 1.67 times the stacked volume, meaning that the volume is 67% larger when the logs become jumbled up. The volume refers to split logs that are 25–30cm in length, which creates more air gaps due to the increased surface area. For example, our full crate's stacked volume is 1.2m³ but has a loose volume of 2m³ when this forms a natural pile. |
Why Don’t We Measure By Weight?
Measuring by weight can be misleading as it doesn’t accurately represent the amount of firewood you’re getting. Weight varies depending on the wood species’ density and on moisture content levels. For instance, a small dumpy bag of logs could weigh more than a large one. Always remember that the drier your firewood gets, the lighter it will be - and the better it will burn.

Second time with Candowe, same quality & good value, like the nets they were easy to move & stack in my store
Good product excellent price
Hi Garry, thanks for the great review! We’re delighted you’re happy with the product and the price.
The logs are great but communication about delivery and the actual delivery company not so good 😔
Hi there! Thanks for your feedback. We're glad you like the logs and will work on improving our delivery communication. We appreciate your patience!
I have just bought my first logs from Cadowe.
The price was great and they delivered them on time. I no longer bought 72 bags of kiln dried birch logs. The quality of the wood is good. I was pleased to get them in the net bags, rather that the heavy plastic sacks that I'm familiar with. The deliver company were also very friendly.
I will definitely be purchasing from this company next autumn.
Logs arrived on Thursday so took 12 days to get here. Last years logs were very good this lot can only be reviewed once used so pointless in asking for a review
Hi Anthony, thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you're satisfied with the logs and hope they burn well. If you have any questions or need anything else, feel free to reach out!
Logs are great. But delivery wise, we had to help the driver take the logs of the lorry.

Delivered when they said and placed where I told them too
Hi Chris, we're glad to hear your delivery was smooth and on time! Thanks for choosing candowe.co.uk.
Logs artived as promised . Driver insisted on helping me carry the logs around to my log store although that wasn’t in his remit . I think I underestimated how much space 72 nets of logs would take . I now have enough to last all through the winter and probably the next one . I cannot fault the service Thank You
Hi Morffydd, we're delighted to hear you’re happy with your logs and the service! Thanks for sharing your experience, and we wish you a warm and cozy winter season. Cheers!
Easy to order, arrived a day earlier than expected but notified all the way. Driver friendly and helpful

Great service, delivered on time, exact order
Unsure if you get as many logs in this load as you would on the pallet I ordered originally, looks less , shame my first request was out of stock with no date for back in !!
Efficient and a useful
Was impressed with how quickly they were delivered. Would have preferred to be informed the day before they were due. Will definitely use again
The logs look good enough although I haven’t used them yet. The delivery was ok too, although confusion around the time window.
First time I have used Candowe, the product looks great, burns well. Delivery via TPN was exactly as described.
Delivered on time and placed just where I needed it for unloading. Good value and burns well👍
Birch logs safely delivered, home and dry in the outhouse, just in time to beat the rain! Such a good price for a premium product. Birch is definitely the best for firewood. Many thanks. Xx
Excellent, all round. Great burning logs, great value. Delivered super fast.
The log pallet was placed in the middle of the garage floor instead of against the side wall where room had been made for it so I am now unable to put my car in the garage!
First time ever buying firewood in bulk.
Very happy with my purchase. Tracking was helpful. Pallet was nicely stacked and secure. Arrived quickly.
Wood burns well, better than most I've used before. Great value.
Thank you!
The logs arrived on the agreed date and left on the drive in a safe place. They are an excellent quality and value compared with similar suppliers. Very happy customer who would certainly recommend Cadowe.
Great customer service and great product. My second order and will be ordering more when these current logs are nearly out. Would highly recommend.
Very pleased with this wood, burns well and radiates a lovely heat.
